  What Is A Pressure Reducing Valve? Pressure reducing valves  help ships by reducing incoming high-pressure water to a lower and safer pressure. They are usually installed on the main water pipe next to the   stop valve . ​ As water flows through the valve, it passes through the diaphragm connected to the spring and reduces the pressure to the desired level as the water flows through the other side of the valve. The pressure reducing valve can also be set to any desired downstream pressure within its design limits. Once the valve is set up, the decompression will remain the same despite changes in supply pressure and system load.
