 What Is A Plug Valve?

Plug Valve is a closing or plunger-shaped rotary valve, which is opened or closed by rotating 90 degrees so that the passageway on the plug is connected with or separated from the passageway on the valve body.

The shape of the plug valve can be cylindrical or conical. In the cylindrical valve plug, the channel is generally rectangular; In a tapered valve plug, the channel is trapezoid. These shapes make the construction of the plug valve lightweight. It is most suitable as a cutting and switching medium and a shunt application, but depending on the nature of the application and the erosion resistance of the sealing surface, it can sometimes be used for throttling.

The plug body of the plug valve rotates with the valve stem to realize the opening and closing action. The small unpacked plug valve is also called "cock". The plug valve is one of the earliest valves used, with simple structure, fast switching and small fluid resistance.

In addition, the plug valve is easy to adapt to multi-channel construction, so that a valve can obtain two, three, or even four different flow channels. This simplifies the design of the piping system, reduces the number of valves and some of the connections required in the equipment. The Marine plug valve is usually located between the intake manifold and the injector and is mounted on the high-pressure oil line of the engine.
